Redefining patient satisfaction in hospitals

Patient satisfaction is one of the most important things that have to be considered when discussing the situation that a patient has undergone in a hospital or any medical facility. Today, this is no longer recognized as patient satisfaction, but as patient experience. It is a more holistic approach, which will shed more light on not just what a patient has to say about their treatment, but on a whole lot more.

When it comes to patient experience, we are looking at things like the coordination of the care, the manner in which the patients are able to communicate with the medical personnel, and most importantly, the manner in which the staff was responsive to the patient’s needs and issues raised.

According to a number of respected individuals in the medical field, patient experience is meant to focus more on the kind of systems or protocols that different institutions have set in place, in order to make sure that the patient does get a reduced level of stress, or none at all.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, the patient experience movement has come a long way, and now sees the light of day. Besides this, there has also been an increasing call to make sure that payments that are made to hospitals for treatment are pegged to the value and the quality of the care that is accorded the patients.
