Top Reasons to Include Exercise in Your Daily Lifestyle

Most children are told from an early age that to stay healthy they must exercise regularly. Unfortunately, some parents never teach their children why an active lifestyle is so important. So it is common for teens to grow up and become unhealthy, overweight adults who lead sedentary lives. Many health care specialists agree that health and fitness is crucial to a long, healthy life.

If you are not exercising regularly your body will gain weight, your organs won’t work as well as they should, cholesterol and sugar levels rise, blood pressure slowly creeps up and, before you know it, you are a candidate for a heart attack or a stroke.

Many people are under the misguided notion that you have to spend hours in a gym or run a marathon to get the exercise you need. The truth is, it is much less complicated. You can find ways to include activities and exercises that fit into your lifestyle.

For example, walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator at work. Park farther away at the office. Walk your dog every morning before you start your day. A simple 30-minute walk most days is enough to make a big difference. Of course more exercise is even more beneficial.

Carrying extra pounds can put added pressure on your organs, legs, brain and other parts of your body. It can be enough to lead to illness. However, if you commit to regular exercise and fitness, you will be able to better control your health and weight.

Do you have trouble sleeping? A sedentary lifestyle may result in you not feeling tired enough to sleep. If you don’t sleep, then you will not be able to recharge and feel rested. The next day you’ll feel fatigued and not able to perform well at work. You may even nod off while driving or performing other tasks and many people have experienced the mood altering effects of fatigue.

It doesn’t matter if you are 8 or 80, you can incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Obviously you should talk to your doctor before starting an exercise program, as some exercise may be harmful to your health. Find a family member or friend to exercise with; then you will feel compelled to keep up with your exercise because somebody else is depending on you.

Regular exercise and fitness will allow you to add all sorts of energetic activities to your life. You may want to go on a skiing trip or hiking in the woods. Maybe you want to compete in a sporting activity. Without the stamina that is build up through consistent exercise and good fitness levels, you will be unable to play your favorite sport socially, let alone at a competitive level.

Do you have trouble breathing after you have walked up one flight of stairs? If so, it means you need to take a good look at your health. Walking builds up your lung capacity, so you have the ability to breath easily any time you need to, even after competitive sports.

You are responsible for your own health. If you lead a sedentary life, you could get sick and your life expectancy may be reduced.  On the other hand, if you have good health and fitness levels, you will be able to live long enough to see your grandchildren and perhaps even your great-grandchildren. It is up to you.
